Russian River
Advocates
Russian River
Advocates, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to bringing
together individuals, businesses, and organizations in a concerted
volunteer effort to maintain the environmental and economic health
of the Russian River Watershed.
Founded in 2004 as the No-Low-Flow Committee, RRA spearheaded a
broad-based community effort to overturn the Sonoma County Water
Agency's proposal to reduce the Russian River summertime water
flow, an effort that has met with limited success. RRA develops and distributes current information on
effects of proposals regarding the Russian River, distributes an information packet for residents of
the watershed, acts as a voice to the media, organizes educational
forums, provides guest speakers for other
interested organizations, and maintains open communication with
government agencies concerned with water quality and river
flow.
The issues confronting residents of the Russian River Watershed
are numerous and complex, ranging from sewage control and the
safety of beaches, to the effects of gravel mining on the
long-term health of the river.
